printmaking and paint
Printmaking and paint. Flora and fauna, seascapes, landscapes, urban imagery. I combine techniques, focusing on texture and light.
I love to observe, collect, sketch and make prints inspired by flora and fauna that inhabit the fields and meadows surrounding my studio in Elsworth as well as from travels farther afield. Influences stem from my work in natural sciences and a passionate interest in biodiversity. My artwork is also inspired by living and working in possibly the most visually exciting cities in the UK: Oxford, London and Cambridge as well as growing up on the Kent coast.
The focus of the artwork is often on texture and its relationship with the subject matter as well as the play of light within the piece. I use a wide range of media such as collagraph, linocut, monoprint and drypoint.-sometimes in combination and quite often experimentally modified to create a range of marks that I find exciting!
