abstract painting, semi-abstract drawings, acrylic, ink, pastel, mixed media

Colourful contemporary abstract paintings, inspired by nature, cells, atmospheric land and seascapes plus the odd rabbit!

My art has science at its core but my inspiration is the natural world. I’m fascinated with the microcosm of the body’s cells to the macro view of land and seascapes even to the heavens. Rarely using a paintbrush, I play with materials and use scientific techniques allowing chaos to take over occasionally.

Background: At sixteen years old when choosing my A-Levels, the Head of Art at my school told me that on no account was I to consider doing art. If I did, she would refer me to an educational psychologist and retire! With such encouragement I chose science. It’s led me to fascinating places with a degree in Zoology (three years drawing!) and further study in Immunology-the body’s defences. For most of my life, art was always unfinished business restricted to a few sketches on holiday.

Thanks to a wise friend, a career break ended up being a joyous education in art through A-level, followed by Foundation at Cambridge Regional College specialising in sculpture. In 2011 I graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Cambridge School of Art at Anglia Ruskin University.

Today, I work as a scientist and paint. Choose between Art or Science? Do both!
