Vibrant and colourful mixed media paintings and drawings. Flora and fauna appear in dreamlike narratives.
Currently I am working in acrylics and pastels. During the 2020 lockdown year, my work has gradually developed into a more narrative, dreamlike style. Figures and animals emerging amongst other flora and fauna. I work on a series of paintings at a time, building up multiple layers of acrylic, pencil pastel and washes. The work develops in a very organic way. I have an initial sense of where I am heading but from then on I follow what feels right. Individual pieces are worked on and revisited multiple times.
I originally studied ceramics at the Central School of Art and Design where my final degree show was made up of hand coiled, lidded pots which featured wild animal designs. After leaving art college I set up my own ceramic studio for some years carrying on my love of surface colour and design, handpainting china with my wild animals. During this time I sold my work to shops and Galleries around England and abroad and took part in exhibitions and trade fairs.
After some years I decided on a career change moving into the film industry as a freelance painter and art finisher. Starting out at The Jim Henson Creature Shop in Hampstead, I went on, over the next 26 years, to work on many film productions in the creature effects and prosthetic make up departments.
Since leaving the film industry and moving to Cambridge to be with my partner, Nick, I have been able to focus on my own work again.
I am a member of the Cambridge Drawing Society, the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists. I exhibit regularly as part of Cambridge Open Studios.
